BIRDS ... WATER BIRDS ... BUTTERFLIES ... DRAGONS & DAMSELS ... LOCATIONS

dontstandlink

I have been photographing birds and other winged creatures since 2002 and the collection is growing nicely. I have assembled them here in as simple a manner as possible so you can easily access the creature you want to see. There are four categories – Birds, which encompasses everything from passerines to birds of prey; Water Birds, where you will find everything from sea birds and waders to the smallest of dabbling birds; Butterflies, lots of small meadow butterflies and the more colourful, larger varieties; and Dragons and Damsels, a selection of darters, hawkers, skimmers, damselflies and incoporating the odd moth and stray insect.

For those of you who are interested in such things, I shoot most of my bird photographs with a Nikon D3X, currently handheld at 600mm or less (300mm f2.8 VR II plus a x2 converter). Dragonflies etc are usually achieved by running backwards with this kit or with a 70 -200mm VR II / 105mm VR II lens.

This does not pretend to be an exhaustive catalogue of British winged creatures, but merely my personal experience, so the lists will change over time as I find new species or manage to get a better picture of an existing one. I am always happy to 'talk birds' and even more happy if you can help me tighten up on the identification of any of the photographs, if you think I've got it wrong (and it does happen!) or if you just want to leave a comment. Either way, you can email me here.

Locations
The areas where I photograph the winged creatures in this catalogue are mainly to be found in the East Midlands, East Anglia and the North-east of the United Kingdom. I have provided a brief resume of each site along with information on accessibility, particularly if you use a wheelchair or a mobility scooter. These are my personal observations and are in no way influenced by the various bodies that own them.
